Misinformation about college campus college campuses is prevalent and popular today. Pundits, politicians, and even some academic figures promote distortions, exaggerations, and falsehoods about university teaching, research, and administration on a regular basis. Influential media routinely, and irresponsibly, amplify such misinformation about “free speech crises,” “coddled students,” and “ideological indoctrination” on campuses.
Campus Information counteracts misinformation about U.S. higher education with constructive information about its great promise for healthy democratic society and the real threats or crises that colleges and universities now face.
Fervent anti-university rhetoric is a classic warning sign of eroding democracy or rising pro-authoritarian sentiment. Political interference with teaching, research, and administration in universities often presages political restrictions on civil liberties in society at large. That’s why constructive information about higher education, and understanding the true state of free speech and intellectual diversity on college campuses, should matter to everyone.
